L4D2 Realism Mode

Realism Mode is a new mode for L4D2.
It's not some insane hard version of normal L4D2 but it's a mode intended for groups that play alot together.

# you must headshot infected to kill them.
# more witches spawn (for example you can see 7 witches in one map)
# Dead = Dead
# And you need to explore more to find weapons pills and health.

This better come out for the first one!

Not quite...



You can bring a teammate to life with a Defibrillator, he/she will have 50 hp. That you can carry in your inventory, in the Health Pack slot.

Doubt it will come for the original L4D, they said they had so many ideas for it they couldnt release it as DLC, thats why they made L4D2

That was in L4D1 also, except there you had the respawn room instead of the defibrillator.

for me realism would be

The above the list PLUS
limited torch time
smaller ammo total size (ie 4 clips) for main weapons
melee doesnt kill, just knocks them back
zombies move slower (to match original movies like shaun of the dead) but react easier to noise from further away.
no music
larger hordes (60+ instead of standard 30)
no special infected
bodies dont disappear

that realism from valve is just pap... more witches? o noes! :\

Maybe, but note that water does stop fire allmost instantly anyway. IRL you will burn to death when there isnt any water arround also.

Fully agreed. The lack of ammo is what makes it special and makes headshots your #1 weapon.

Why doesnt it kill? if you bash in their skull with a weapon it will kill. Stop the brains or the heart and a zombie will die also. Note that they arent undead! they are INFECTED. You can kill a human IRL when you bash with a weapon so you can also do that ingame. However, it should require multiple melee hits to be effective.

I like the fast running zombies. Thats one of the reasons i liked l4d above other zombie shooters. Its fast gameplay makes it good. Even for a realism mode this is a must or you can just play a diffirent zombie shooter which probably is better.

Yay! more chances for survivors to die. Finaly you cant bumrush witches infinitely.

A few things i want:
- Incaps can happen infinitely - but you will become weaker each incap after the last one. simply because IRL it will eventualy become harder to survive. Pills are a good temporary boost and maybe should also reset a bit of the health you will start on after an incap again.
- The player walk speed is defined by the ammount of incaps and health. If you havent been incapped but are on 1 health you simply should have the speed of 40 health. After the incap it should lower

yea you could kill someone with a hit to the head i dont deny that but you couldnt keep up that kinda power forever. eventually your arms would ache so much it would take 2/3/4 hits to take them out completely. like with the melee from the weapons in l4d. melee had knock back 3/4 times then the zombies died from it.

yea for me slow zombies are my preference. i find slow moving zombies scarier than those fast ones.

agreed with the alerts for SI. they need to be removed so you have to listen out for the burp etc. the witch music should stay. but what I really meant was the generic background music. I know it "builds up tension" but i'd find a lack of music n a tank roaring far more scary than that plucking guitar music...

yea if its hs' only then 30 does present a challenge but in movies the "survivors" are properly overwhelmed ie dozens of zombies/whatever to one survivor. with only 30 infected its less than 8 to 1. hardly a challenge with a team of good players.

yea but how often do u see a boomer or a smoker in dawn of the dead? for me the common infected especially in larger numbers with HS only should prove more than enough :)

agreed. but maybe if they are on 1 health they move a lot slower. or have a limp that does impair the aiming. that would make it proper real :P

Those are L4D specific. They could be more rare to show up in realism mode but they should be there.

Even with that command they will disappear, simply because source has a dynamic object limit and those ragdolls are also in it. The disappear command only makes that happen faster or on a diffirent way. (if you go over that dynamic object limit the game crashes). Note however, 50 dead zombies are just 50 dynamic objects... the limit is at 2048 where maps often take about 1000-1500 dynamic objects (including random objects like pipebombs in that). So you still barely reach that number. But on a full map you could realy reach that number during a finale as then you could end up with 500 dead bodies. not mentioning the lag it would give.

IRL you can be knocked down multiple times, it will weaken you every time. you will allways need a decent hit to be realy killed. And often multiple. When assisted by others you usualy can handle it a bit longer.

Realism isnt fully possible at that part due to it being a game and there has to be some sort of system to count damage.

The thing is, if they havent been incapped they are often still able to walk at a decent speed. after the incap then the 1 health would slow you down alot. And again, adrenaline will void all the decreasing and max it out no matter when. Same for pills, they will decrease the slowdown. Maybe its purely defined by hit on your leg. to be perfect

Anyway, the demo is out and im going to play that first to see what they did there :P

Realism sounds good, should challenge us more. i think 30 infected in one horde is fine, as they are fast moving and 4 people trying to headshot 30 running people in under 10 seconds will be quite a challenge. i like the idea of smaller clip size, 4 clips for main weapon and a couple for your side arm. also IMO some nelee weapons should break, like guitar or nightstick, after hitting 20 or so infected they would show signs of wear, especially the guitar, as the neck would snap from the body after a couple of hits if your talking REAL realism that is. but then if we were, there would be so many thing to factor in that just arnt possible at this point in time due to source engine limitations, aswell as PC specs.
