Mmm, I think Vanilla really gets viewed through rose-tinted Nostalgia lenses. Incredible amounts of rocket and nade spam, especially with a 6/40 ammo count for pipes and lack of reflects. And seeing scouts take the L1-only teleports is depressing!

That problem didn't exist when it was 24 slot server, in fact it doesn't really happen on any 24 slot server.
TC- you sir, are one pain in the ass!
Imp- you've been offline for a while and you dont have a life. i am confused.
Kan- War is annoying to play against I will agree, but he isn't cheating.

Yeah I was laughing when I saw my team had 7 demomen, 2 or 3 medics, and 1 of the other classes. I can't remember ever winning on defense. I won a lot more on offence than I normally would have. For some reason, more spam didn't really seem to influence the match.

like i said before the trial started, points would become cappable again. teamwork is required to defend now, you cant rely on instabuild sgs and airblast.

the problem i can see with this is highlighted by mittens above, new players dont have nostalgia tinted glasses and wont come to server 6. all the old regulars will like it, but not the newer players.

i'm firmly in the camp of liking fire damage and no airblast, so you wont hear me complaining. i also wont be going on a server which regularly has granary on rotation.

If Granary was seen to be disliked by the server regulars we would look at removing/replacing.

I jumped on #6 today. Tbh 16v16 is too much. It becomes a midless spam with the frustation of respawn time. (Hi random crit rockets).
That's the reason i usually play on #2. I'm more confortable with the 12v12 setup.

As medic, i need to think more who to uber. Heavies are too slow now for a good push in attack (but still ok in defence). And while i write this, i remember why i ubered so many pyros 3 years ago, their vanilla damage is insane.

I have a mixed feeling about vanilla mode, probably i just need to adapt to this mode and go for healthpacks more often, vanilla hp regen is awfull <.<

For me the negatives outweigh the positives, although I'd prefer vanilla to any 1 or 2 map rotation.

My opinion:

Positives:
24 player (if you choose that)
No targe
No unusual or obnoxious hats, but I prefer normal hats because they allow you to identify enemy players.
Vanilla respawn - Goldrush is winnable again

Negatives:
Class balance is pretty bad (Demoman especially)
Spies are too easy to play against. If a spy does well it's because the enemy team let them.
No upgraded teleporters
No jarate and other weapons I like.
Random crits and 20s respawn? No thanks. Crits should never have made it out of beta but I'm stuck with them now I guess.

I'm actually starting to play on UKCS because of this. Albeit the 32 slots for now is kind of annoying, just creates annoying spamming play where people spam chokes for the map.

Just wanted to mention that the server feels very laggy to me, as if rockets and nades take a long time to appear after firing (like playing with 100ms interp, even though I have 25). Might just be my connection.

I'm also getting around 50fps when I feel my PC should be getting around 200 taking into account the config I'm using. Not UKCS fault of course, but vanilla doesn't seem to give me an fps boost.

BEST server. So much fun on saturday night. Me and Tom must have spent about 10 hours on there total. 5 hours straight at one point.

So much fun, it's fine the way it is to be honest. Don't change it at all. Except, maybe add an All Talk vote at the beginning of each map. A lot of the fun i'm having on there is due to the people on there so i want to talk to everyone!

Pretty much this, I can sort of side with not wanting the new weapons/airblast hating but why remove the smaller post-release updates like the building fixes or the ammo nerf? They made the gameplay much better and I am not aware of anyone actually complaining about them (apart from the day they came out because change!!).

Also 33-man is not vanilla, 24-man maximum.

(Since when has Vanilla meant not-updated anyway? I always thought vanilla servers had no config changes/3rd party mods)

Why not just keep the current core game and simply limit it to vanilla weapons? (+ backburner instead of flamethrower to avoid the airblast)

Oddly, I've been enjoying the pseudo-vanilla on #6. I've found it quite frustrating at times, as it also seem my skill level, such as it is, has also been set back to TF2's release (yes, Tom, I know I'm a noob anyway :p). Playing Spy, I kept standing still and then realising my cloak was still depleting. Darn!

One thing that stands out to me as inconsistent is that while engineers can't upgrade their teleporters, they can still knock sappers off the entrance by hitting the exit.

Anyway, good stuff so far, and it's the server I'm playing on mostly at the moment. Whether that will last, I don't know.

That's basically what it means in every game with the exception of TF2 and MMOs. Through what ever course of events, 'vanilla' for TF2 has come to mean 'Fresh out of the box, no changes whatsoever' which would include all of the updates. People seem to like to so... yeah.

I really like the Vanilla Mode .
But as said earlier by others it's got to be a 24 slot server .
I often encountered Pyro and Demo spam which wasn't fun at all ^^
I'd like to have some hats available, but since some hats have effects on the player (like Ol'Snaggletooth) i'd leave it as it is .

I hope there will be an Vanilla Mode Server in the future .

As said before in this thread, we are just trialing to see how it works. We've tested the 32 players for a few days and have now set it to 24 players to see if that's better. So please keep it coming with the feedback! :)

I really appreciate this vanilla server, i had lot of fun, balanced teams and fair play. (...that is really difficult to find these days in other servers)
Today tf2 is not much fun for me, too different weapon, too unbalanced class, nonsense items.. etc.

In these days now i'm having fun again, after a long time of hating Valve for how they have ruined my favourite game.

Thx to ukcs for this server, thx really a lot!! i love this mod and i hope to see it forever in this server. <3


(p.s again sorry for my bad english, i'm Italian :wink: )
