it gets the crowd going and gets the players going, kindof like a adrenaline boost for everyone! but tbh, its quite rare on a nightly basis.

There's way more to it than just violence. The crowds do enjoy it of course, especially when there's some bad blood or a rivalry.
Fighting is a lot more tactical. It's like Chess for example, you take out the pieces that do the most damage. You remove the huge guy who can crush you for 5 minutes, that gives your skilled players some breathing room to play without worrying about the 6'9 260lb Russian destroying you into the boards. It can also spark some life into a team that are losing, change the momentum of the game.
Sometimes you're just trying to send a message. Shut a guy up who's talking shit at your players and what not(you get called all sorts).
Marty Brodeur has past the all time shutout (cleansheet) record! he now has 104 shutouts! He is leading quite a few records, most minutes on the ice, most wins, now most shotouts! Hes a great player, its nice to see him still going strong at 37!

Yeah, big congrats to him. Strange that his first ever Shutout was against the Penguins and it was the Pens they beat 4 - 0 last night too for his record. Easily the best goal tender of modern hockey.

I saw them once, at the NYNEX Arena. Against Bracknell Bees, IIRC. Would have been about 9 or 10 years ago. (Which means it was probably the MEN Arena by then, actually).
Never really watched much ice hockey though. I did like to play EA Hockey on my Megadrive, back in the day. There was a time that I knew what "icing" was. Can't remember now (but I think it's slapping the puck over both red lines, or something).

I became a big fan of the Calgary Flames back in April when I spent a month over there. It was the middle of the playoffs so an ideal time to be there. I even managed to get a visit to Flame Central and the SaddleDome on game night, what an atmosphere!
Its kack that we dont get any NHl on terrestrial TV any more...and I refuse to pay ESPN like £13 a month just so I can watch live hockey games!
