Car Subwoofer At The Home. **FIXED**

Ok, just hooked my Car subwoofer up in my house, but it sounds really muffled. If i lift the RCA cables up while in the ports it becomes somewhat clearer(yet it sounds fine in he car) What do you think would cause this?

Also what would i search for if i wanted music to come from my xbox (RCA) then from there go into my car subwoofer and my stereo system. What is it called? i searched for a splitter but it's just a RCA female to 3.5mm Male headphone jack.
Female RCA to 2 Male RCA's basically, the splitters i mentioned, would they work if i bought 2 and use them in conjunction with each other?

The car sub has enough power going to it, a car alternator only be running 50 amps on a 12v, so 600watts. which im running the subwoofer on a 600 watt PSU.

Any help would be helpful.

Also someone mentioned Ohms and how my xbox would be 8ohms and car sub would be 4ohms. Anyone know more on this?

Nothing to do with Ohms, Bought a splitter and just used left and used the splitter to connect the right to the sub.

Don't know what you mean by splitter, but assume it just splits the output signal.

A sub woofer only allows frequencies below a certain cut-off frequency, so putting the output from a system into that one speaker would cut off any frequencies over the cut-off frequency.

So say your cross-over for the sub woofer is at 50 Hz, then any frequencies above that would be attenuated. In other words it would sound muffled.

The ohms that you spoke of, is the impedance of the speaker, and must match the output impedance of the amplifier, or you will get loss of power (speaker impedance higher than designed amplifier impedance), endanger your amplifier by having a lower load impedance than it was designed for, or even damage your speaker.
In other words if you have an amplifier with an output impedance of 8 ohms, and you put a 16 ohm load(speaker) on it, then the power output would be halved.
Alternately if you put a load of 4 ohms on the same output, then current through the speaker will get doubled and will damage the speaker over time, and will push your amplifier to dump more current than it is designed for, so may blow the amp up.

Most speakers will tell you what their impedance is.

Another update on this btw.

I sold my old one and put a new home made one in, got a car amp and run that on low pass filter, but because i couldnt find the splitter i needed its only runing on Left i think. so its abit weaker, i could buy another splitter to get it on both channels but extra monies when it works fine

thanks for the responses though cleared a few things i wasnt really sure on.

Worked out a really cheap way of enhancing the sound of stuff rather than paying £500+ for a sub from the sound shop.
